After they were unable to find a suitable relocation venue for their massive window, American Airlines got in touch with us, to have it dismantled and made available for sale. We thought this was a much better idea than destroying it. The glass window is 300 feet in size, and was designed and assembled by Robert Sowers in 1960 at JFK International Airport. It took pride of place at the American Airlines Terminal for nearly fifty years before its removal. Even though many panels have been sold, a large number still remain, each representing a fragment of the window’s history.

Over the years Olde Good Things’ salvage team has had the privilege of reclaiming windows from legendary and iconic buildings, to create masterpieces that feature in future-facing spaces in homes, offices and commercial environments. American Airlines’ Robert Sowers Terminal at JFK International Airport is one of our favorites.

As the largest architectural salvage company in the United States, Olde Good Glass is proud to offer the widest range of reclaimed glass for your vintage and contemporary building needs.

The History of the Building

The original window was a 300-foot piece of stained glass that was designed by artist Robert Sowers in 1960. It stood in JFK International Airport, American Airlines Terminal 8, for nearly 50 years before it was carefully removed by Olde Good Things and repurposed for sale to the public to own a piece of history.

Even though we have sold a number of the window panels, owing to the size of the original structure, there is still a variety of panels in stock.

Incorporating Exclusive Reclaimed Glass Into Modern Design

Our customers have used this exclusive reclaimed glass for a number of different applications, including privacy windows, for end and coffee table surfaces, outdoor entrance gates, or combined in order to create partition walls and room dividers.

The bold colors of many of the panels make them ideal for contemporary environments, which include homes, offices and commercial spaces. Regardless of where you choose to put them, they’ll definitely create a statement.

Of course, the ultimate positioning is an area where light can shine through, to maximize the amount of color that passes through the windows. A number of our clients have incorporated American Airlines’ stained glass indoors and outdoors.
